After graduating from Lebo High School, I went to Emporia
State for my teaching degree. I then spent a year substitute
teaching in Osage County. My first teaching assignment was
fifth grade at Carbondale, a job that I enjoyed for ten
years. Next came a transition into the junior high, teaching
technology and 7th grade math and eventually 7th and 8th
grade reading. I currently teach 8th grade reading. I am
sponsor of the SFTJH Student Council.
My favorite part of teaching reading is trying to find
THE book that will get someone, who normally doesn't find
reading enjoyable, interested in reading. I find myself
making those matches everytime I read something new. I also
enjoy talking with those who are enthused about books to
find out what they are reading. A big part of what students
do in my class is reading independently. I have worked over
the last five years to get a substantial library built up
for our classroom. Part of that collection includes books
that students have contributed and I am very grateful for
those donations! With the new classroom, the bookcase was
expanded and is quite impressive!
When I am not in school I enjoy time with my family. I am
glad for any opportunity to plan a family trip, whether it
is out of state or taking in a Royals or Wildcat game.
