Getting to know Vincent Van Gogh

Art students at both CAC and SAC were hosts to a surprise Art Exhibit featuring master painter Vincent Van Gogh. The traveling art exhibit shows five famous paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, along with his biographical information. What makes the exhibit so exciting is that the paintings are blown up to 18 feet panels, printed on silk, so that they can be touched. The large- size images enable the students to get an up close feel for the artist's large scale brushstrokes, and use of color. It was exciting for students to come into contact, and in fact, touch the painting entitled, Starry Night. Starry Night is one of Vincent Van Gogh's most famous paintings, and in fact, it is one of the most famous paintings in the world. The students loved getting to touch and see the brushstrokes up close.

Students, ages 3rd grade to 8th grade were able to ponder what makes Vincent Van Gogh's paintings masterpieces. They got a glimpse into the technique, life story, and soul of one of the world's greatest painters. Students answered questions, created timelines and biographical sheets, and are ultimately generating their own works of art inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. At the conclusion of the exhibition, each student and staff member received a bookmark to commemorate the event. Mrs. Riggs wishes to thank her administrators for providing this opportunity for the students at SAC and CAC.
