INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE (Semester) Prerequisites: None Supplies: Folder, notebook paper, pencils Students will study the basics of theatre, from its history and evolution to basic acting techniques. This course will also introduce script and character analysis. Throughout this course, students will read and see full-length plays.
ADVANCED THEATRE (Semester) Prerequisites: Introduction to Theatre Supplies: Folder, notebook paper, pencils This course will continue to build basic theatre knowledge, while applying acting techniques in class. Students will be studying stylistic differences in theatre as well as character exploration. The emphasis will be on continuing skills learned in Introduction to Theatre.
ACTING (Semester or Year) Can be repeated both semesters Prerequisite: None Suggested Introduction to Theatre Supplies: Folder, notebook paper, pens/pencils, highlighter This is a performance based class designed for both the brave and timid. It can be frightening to be up in front of others, but in this class students will work together to create a nurturing environment where everyone feels safe to create or to "come out of their shell." Students will study a variety of acting techniques in preparing for performances: improvisational games, voice and movement exercises, character analysis, script analysis, etc.
CREATIVE WRITING Prerequisites: Sophomore, Junior or Senior Supplies: Pen/pencil, paper This class explores the process of writing all types of poetry, short stories, and screenplays/scripts. Students learn how to evaluate the creativity and substance of student pieces. A class publication will be the ending project.
DEBATE (Fall Semester) Prerequisites: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior KSHSAA Eligibility for Activities Supplies: Legal pads, pens, pencils, organizational material Other Expenses: Money for meals on tournament days This is both an advanced speech course and an activity. Students will focus on research, organization, and logical analysis as they compete against other students. Self-motivation, teamwork, and a desire to succeed are all vital. Students are required to commit to at least 3 tournaments outside of class, as well as assist in hosting one at SFT. Lettering is possible, as well as earning medals and trophies. If you like to argue, want to be a lawyer, or thrive on intelligent competition, this is the class for you! See Mr. Reed for next year's debate topic.
FORENSICS (Spring Semester) Prerequisites: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior KSHSAA Eligibility for Activities Supplies: Notebook paper, pencils and organizational materials Other expenses: Money for meals on tournament days This course is competitive speech and drama. Students will use a wide range of performance skills to develop their talents in public speaking, readings, and acting. Students are required to commit to at least 3 tournaments outside of class, as well as assist in hosting one at SFT. Lettering is possible, as well as earning medals and trophies. FILM APPRECIATION (Semester) Prerequisites: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior Supplies: Folder, Notebook paper, pencils Students will analyze the fundamentals of film. Throughout the semester, ten films will be shown, analyzed, and discussed. Although the emphasis will be on the acting, directing, and script of the film, all aspects of film production will be covered. Students will explore how the different elements of the fillm production process affect the viewer's emotional and intellectual film experience.
ACCC SPEECH (Semester) Concurrent with ACCC PUBLIC SPEAKING (COM 101) 3 Credit Hours Prerequisites: Juniors or Seniors. Student must pass ASSET test, or have an 16 score on the English section of the ACT Tuition: $68.00 Per Credit Hour ($204) Total for 3 Credit Hours ACCC Speech provides instruction and experience on how to research, organize, prepare and deliver a speech in a variety of different contexts. Students will receive training in listening and evaluation techniques. ACCC Speech is a general education requirement for all associate degrees at ACCC.
