INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY / TRADE AND INDUSTRY

A $10.00 Shop fee will be assessed for students at enrollment

EXPLORATIONS IN INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY (Semester)

Prerequisites: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior

Supplies: Pen or Pencil, Paper, $10.00 shop fee

Other expenses: Additional cost of lumber on personal projects

This course will provide students with an orientation to the production industry. Students will receive instruction in shop management, safety, machine and tool use, layout and measurements, and product design. The fundamentals of mechanical drafting will be introduced, so that students will be able to make their ideas realized in a tangible way. Knowledge of these fundamental concepts will help students further their technology education in computer-aided drafting (CAD). Workplace skills such as team workmanship, time management, materials management, problem-solving and communication in the workplace will be emphasized.

CAD/DRAFTING (Semester)

Prerequisites: Explorations in Industrial Technology

Supplies: Pencil and Paper

Other expenses: None

This course will expose students to the use of the computer to generate technical drawings. Students will learn about basic computer hardware, software, CAD computer commands, and the CAD drawing screens. Students will also explore CAD careers, and occupations related to design. Upon mastery of the basic CAD system, students will create various drawings such as orthographic, oblique, isometric, section, topographical, and floor plans.

3D MODELING (Semester)

Prerequisites: Explorations in Industrial Technology

Supplies: Paper & Pencil, Data Storage Medium,

Other expenses: None

The focus for this course will be uniting 2D and 3D mechanical design. This design process will incorporate the creation of solid, surface, and assembly part modeling. A cooperative learning approach is incorporated into the curriculum to enhance the student's knowledge of design. As advanced computer-aided drafting techniques and skills are introduced, students' experiences should be beneficial, as to further their study of graphic design within industrial, commercial, and 3D/multimedia applications. These and other partnerships provide various opportunities for further education and/or employment in the Drafting/CAD industry.

WOOD TECHNOLOGY I (Semester or Year)

Prerequisites: Explorations in Industrial Technology

Supplies: $10.00 shop fee

Other expenses: Additional cost of lumber on personal projects

Product design, procedure planning, material selection, cabinetry and commercial manufacturing methods, including mass production, are introduced in this course.  The students will utilizes the skills learned in Explorations in Industrial Technology to construct instructor-assigned and instructor-approved projects.  Instructor-approved projects will be paid for by the student. One-half of the project cost is due before the project is started, and the balance is due upon completion of the project, except projects under $15.00 are to be paid before starting the project. Grades will be based on daily effort, and the quality, quantity, and the degree of difficulty of the work completed.

WOOD TECHNOLOGY II (Semester or Year) May be repeated for credit.

Prerequisites: Explorations in Industrial Technology

Supplies: $10.00 shop fee

Other expenses: Additional cost of lumber on personal projects

Product design, machine operations, manufacturing methods, and safety are emphasized and reinforced as the student utilizes the skills learned in Wood Technology 1. The students will construct individual and/or group projects with an emphasis on cabinetry. Grades will be based on the daily effort, and quality, quantity, and degree of difficulty of the work completed. The project cost will be the responsibility of the student. One-half of the project cost is due before the project is started, and the balance is due upon completion of the project, except projects under $15.00 are to be paid before starting the project.
