ART I: INTRODUCTION TO ART (Semester) Prerequisites: None Supplies: Pencil Art I: Introduction to Art is the foundation class for all art courses at the high school level. Students will have brief experiences in producing two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks through drawing, printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture and craft. Emphasis is on introduction to the elements of art, color theory, vocabulary, art criticism, art history, and safety in the art room through presentations of various processes, procedures, theories, and historical developments. Problem solving and decision-making are emphasized throughout Art I. This class is a prerequisite for all Art II courses.
ART II: DRAWING & PAINTING (Semester) Prerequisite: Art I Supplies: Pencil Art II: Drawing & Painting builds on the student's technical skills and foundation of knowledge developed in Art I. The study of the elements of art and principles of design, color theory, vocabulary, and art history continues with the emphasis on two-dimensional processes in the areas of drawing, painting and printmaking. Mediums used may include charcoal, pastel, ink, acrylic paint, colored pencils and oil paint. This class is a prerequisite for Art III: Drawing & Painting.
ART II: CERAMICS & SCULPTURE (Semester) Prerequisite: Art I Supplies: Pencil Art II: Ceramics & Sculpture builds on the student's technical skills and foundation of knowledge developed in Art I. The study of the elements of art and principles of design, color theory, vocabulary, and art history continues with the emphasis on three-dimensional ceramic and sculptural processes. Included are the additive, subtractive, constructive and substitutive approaches to sculpture and basic hand building techniques. Mediums used may be clay, plaster, stone, metal, wood and found objects. This class is a prerequisite for Art III: Ceramics & Sculpture.
ART II: JEWELRY & CRAFTS (Semester) Prerequisites: Art I Fees: *This course requires an additional $10.00 supply fee. Supplies: Pencil Art II: Crafts builds on the student's technical skills and foundation of knowledge developed in Art I. The study of the elements of art and principles of design, color theory and vocabulary continues with the emphasis on craft processes for lifelong learning and enrichment. A variety of processes will be explored using mediums such as metal, polymer clay, fibers, paper and glass. Techniques learned may include copper enameling, millefiore bead construction, weaving, papermaking, batik, tie-dying and simple jewelry techniques.
ART III: DRAWING & PAINTING (Semester) Prerequisites: Art II: Drawing & Painting with a "C" or better Supplies: Sketchbook Art III: Drawing & Painting builds on skills from Art II with a more in-depth and personal approach to the study of drawing and painting. In Art III, students will keep a sketchbook. Students will be expected to do work outside of class and should be independent, self-motivated and interested in further developing their artistic talents. May be repeated for credit.
ART III: CERAMICS & SCULPTURE (Semester) Prerequisites: Art II: Ceramics & Sculpture with a "C" or better Supplies: Pencil Art II: Ceramics & Sculpture builds on skills from Art II with a more in-depth approach to the study of ceramics. Wheel throwing will be emphasized. Students will be expected be independent, self-motivated and interested in further developing their artistic talents. May be repeated for credit.
ART III: JEWELRY & CRAFTS (Semester) Prerequisites: Art II: Jewelry & Crafts with a "C" or better Supplies: Pencil Art II: Jewelry & Crafts builds on skills from Art II with a more in-depth study of techniques. Mediums may include glass, metals, paper and fibers. Students will be expected be independent, self-motivated and interested in further developing their artistic talents. May be repeated for credit. |
