YOUTH ART MONTH

March is Youth Art Month (YAM). The program emphasizes the value of art education for all children. In Kansas, pieces chosen will be on display at the Alice Sabatini Gallery, Topeka Public Library, from March 14-April 29th.

Teachers who are members of Kansas Art Educators Association (KAEA) are also allowed to enter one student's artwork into a Sargent Art Youth Art Month Contest for a possible scholarship and prizes. These will be announced at the awards reception on April 29th. The student chosen to represent Santa Fe Trail was Shaylee Meier with her charcoal representation of a football player entitled "Friday Night Lights".  Congratulations Shaylee!

Shaylee

And last, but not least, a copy of Shaylee’s piece will also be on display at the National YAM booth at the National Art Education Association Convention in Seattle, Washington later this month! It is one of only 25 pieces chosen to represent our state. Don’t forget to visit the Sabatini Gallery at the Topeka Public Library between March 14th and April 29th to see it in person!
