Teacher - Science
Education: I received my education starting at Lamar High School, Lamar Arkansas, graduating in 1984. I attended Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas, and earned a BS in Biology in 1989 and earned my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, Kansas, in 2001. Work Experience: I began my teaching career in in 1989 in Faucett, Missouri at Mid-Buchannan Junior-Senior High School. After two years there, I accepted a position teaching science at Carbondale Junior High in 1991. I consider myself very fortunate to have helped move our district through the reorganization process. After 19 years in the district I felt I needed a change and accepted a teaching job in Garden City. While I value the experiences, students, and colleagues I met while teaching there, I was equally thrilled with the opportunity to return “home”, SFT, in 2011. With this return to the district I took a high school science teacher position. Since returning to SFT I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue my passions in the form of starting a Green Team, helping the district secure the addition of a wind turbine to the high school campus and starting a new course in energy science which will enable our students to have a much greater knowledge of how the energy we use in our homes is produced and the career options in this field. Favorite Quote: “Practice makes permanent”—Coach Ramsey, my high school basketball coach. So many people believe that practice makes perfect, but it is my belief that only perfect practice makes perfect. How many of us can repeatedly practice perfectly? Instead, if the practices we create are ones we repetitiously do, then we must strive each day to practice to the best of our abilities. This engrains those permanent habits and skills.
