You might have heard that USD 434 is participating in a project funded by the Literacy Network of Kansas (LiNK) program from the Kansas State Department of Education. The goal of the project is to ensure every child receives high-quality instruction on reading and writing. But did you know that children can start getting ready to read well before they reach school age?
Our partners at Greenbush have begun rolling out a new way for us to reach caregivers of early learners and provide them with bite-sized, research-backed tips they can use to help their children get ready to read. It’s called “babble. talk. read.”, or BTR:
There are three components to this early literacy initiative:
1. A social media campaign on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@BTRProgram)
2. A website with resources for caregivers (https://btr.greenbush.org)
3. An app for Android and iPhone (just search for “Babble Talk Read” in the app stores)
We encourage everyone in our district to follow BTR on social media, but we also encourage you to download the app on your phone. If you select USD434 in the notifications settings menu, we can send you occasional messages about events you might be interested in. Don’t worry; you can turn them off at any time.
Thank you for doing your part to help ensure every child develops the skills they will need for success in school and in life.
