Superintendent Newsletter August 12, 2022
Dear Parents, Patrons and Staff;
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!!
New teachers reported for New Staff Orientation on Wednesday of this week. All staff will return next Monday August 15th for two day of Professional Learning followed by a Teacher Preparation day in their respective classrooms on Wednesday. The first day of school for all students is Thursday August 18th.
The start of the new school year is always the opportunity to begin again, set new goals, create new opportunities, and turn our hopes into reality. Student learning and success is our number one focus. As parents, educators and community members we can all work together “Inspiring and Empowering Every Charger, Every Day”.
On-Line Enrollment has gone extremely well this summer. Thank you to all that have completed the process. If you have not enrolled your student please do so before the first day of school next Thursday. By enrolling early your students will be on class rosters, technology provided by the district will be ready for them and their teachers will have plans for their first day.
COVID 19 and its many variants continue to affect our lives now and for the foreseeable future. We ask that if you or your student has symptoms of COVID or have tested positive please quarantine at home for at least five days and get tested before returning to school. Our district nurses will no longer do contact tracing. If you have symptoms or have tested positive you are responsible to tell those that you have been in close contact with. Our school nurses can still provide rapid tests to keep students in school and to insure that they return safely. Let’s all do the right thing and do everything we can to keep others safe.
Fall sports practices begin next Monday August 15th. Parents be sure that your students have a current physical and all other required paperwork. Contact your student’s school office if you have questions about the requirements. Students who have not completed all required paper work will not be allowed to take part in practice.
The school breakfast and Lunch programs are available to all students in USD 434. Please click the following link for the food service newsletter Food Service Newsletter
Shout Outs and Congratulations:
I want to give a huge shout out to our SFTJH custodial team and our summer paint crew. They put in very long days at work this summer to make significant upgrades to our school. They replaced flooring, scrubbed and painted walls, and also organized closets and classrooms. All of these tasks were done on top of the typical summer cleaning tasks they always do. Our crews truly put their heart and soul into their work this summer. We are all excited to welcome our teachers, students, and families back to school next week.

Please join us at Overbrook Attendance Center, Tuesday, August 16th from 4-6pm for Open House. Families may meet their teacher, tour the classroom and drop off school supplies. Afterwards please stay for our Back to School Bash from 6-8pm. Purchase individual tickets or a $10 wristband to play carnival games, get your face painted, jump in a bounce house and enjoy a hotdog meal. All proceeds support our annual Rock Your School event.
I would like to express a sincere thanks to the custodial staff in all our buildings. They have diligently worked all summer to ensure our buildings are clean and ready for students!
Thank you to the OAC staff who volunteered many hours over the summer to paint murals in our building. A giant shout out to Reanna Crumpton for outlining our murals! We are very excited for the students and families to see the changes to our building.

Quote for the Week:
Every new day brings new opportunities. Decide in advance to look for the good, to seize the moment, to feed the positive, to weed the negative, and to be your best while bringing out the best in others.

Have a Great School Year!!!
