Charger Family News
Back-to-School Night Success!
Thank you, Charger families, for making our Back-to-School Night such a great event! We had 246 families attend — that’s 89% of our school! Your partnership in your child’s education makes all the difference.

Upcoming Student Assessments
In the coming weeks, PreK-4 - 3rd grade students will take their FastBridge Assessments in both math and reading. These assessments help teachers see what students already know and where they may need more support.

📊 Math Testing (Aug. 31 –Sept. 4)
  • PreK-4, Kindergarten & 1st Grade: earlyMath – focuses on early number skills.
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade: aMath – computer-based test covering a wide range of math skills (counting, operations, measurement, geometry, etc.).
  • CBMmath Automaticity – checks how quickly and accurately students can recall basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

📚 Reading Testing (Sept. 8–11)
  • PreK-4, Kindergarten: Skills tested can include letter sounds, recognizing words, and early reading concepts.
  • 1st Grade: Focuses on sight words, sounding out words, and building fluency.
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade: Students will read short passages aloud to check fluency and accuracy (CBMreading). They will also take aReading, a computer test that looks at vocabulary, phonics, and comprehension.

Why These Tests Matter
The FastBridge Assessments give teachers a clearer picture of your child’s progress. With this information, we can provide the right support to help every Charger succeed!

Mark your calendars for these important September dates!
  • Monday, September 7 – 🚫 No School – Labor Day
  • Wednesday, September 9 – 🏫 Board of Education Meeting – 6:00 PM
  • Friday, September 18 – 🎉 Homecoming – ½ Day
  • Monday, September 21 – 📊 Student Count Day
  • Please make every effort to have your child at school on this day!

 

Student Count Day

📅 Important: Student Count Day – September 21, 2026
You may hear us talking about Student Count Day — but what does that mean?
👉 Count Day is the day the state looks at our student attendance to determine school funding for the entire year. The number of students present directly impacts how much support and resources our district receives.
✅ What Families Need to Know:
  • Count Day is Monday, September 21, 2026.
  • To help us maximize funding, please make every effort to send your child to school on:
  • Friday, Sept. 18
  • Monday, Sept. 21 (Count Day)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22
  • If a student is absent on Count Day, they can still be counted if they:
  • Attend school at least once before and once after Sept. 21.
💙 Why This Matters
More students present = more funding for our school. That means more resources, programs, and opportunities for your child.

 

Homecoming 2026

Charger Families
Homecoming 2026 will take place on Friday, September 18th. Students will attend school for a half day. Families are welcome to take their children and attend the parade and pep rally together.

The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. in Overbrook, followed by a community pep rally. 
Families are encouraged to line the streets, cheer on our Chargers, and enjoy the festivities!

Homecoming Dismissal
  • PreK-3 yr olds remain the same - PM classes will be cancelled
  • Early Dismissal: Students will attend 1/2 day, and lunch will be served K-3.
  • Walkers: Release at 11:55 a.m.
  • CAC & SAC Shuttle Buses: Depart at 11:30 a.m.
  • Route Buses: Depart around 11:45 a.m.
  • Transportation: Students will go home by their regular bus route, as walkers, or by parent/guardian pick-up.
  • 🚫 No Parade Shuttle: There will be no shuttle service to the parade.
  • Change in Dismissal Plans: Parents, please communicate any dismissal changes to the school so we can adjust our bus sheets. Please get in touch with Ms. Stephanie in the office at 1-800-836-9525 ext.2. Communication prior to the day of Sept 18th would be appreciated.
 

📣 Clubs & The Voice – Coming Soon!

We are excited to offer some fun opportunities for our students this school year!

🎤 The Voice (morning announcements)
The Voice will continue this year as an application-based opportunity for students in 2nd and 3rd grade. Students who are interested will need to complete an application to be considered. More information about the application process will be shared with students during morning announcements.

🎨 Student Clubs
Clubs will provide students with opportunities to explore different interests, try something new, and build friendships with students across grade levels.
Clubs will:
  • Meet Wednesdays from 2:30–3:00 PM
  • A mix of K–3 students
  • Change each quarter so students can experience different clubs throughout the year
  • Requires students to apply for the club(s) they are interested in

📢 How will students learn more?
Clubs and The Voice will be announced during our September 1st morning announcements. Students will receive information about the available opportunities and how to apply in class.

We are excited to give our students the chance to discover new interests, share their talents, and connect with friends across our school! 💙
